Washington D.C. –In a pivotal development in Lawyers for Civil Rights v. DHS, et al., a case seeking to safeguard Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haitian and Venezuelan recipients, U.S. District Judge of Massachusetts Richard Stearns has preserved a critical legal avenue to challenge the Trump administration’s termination of these protections. In Tuesday’s hearing, Judge Stearns acknowledged the decision in NTPSA v. Noem, where Senior District Judge for the Northern District of California Edward M. Chen, rightfully blocked the Trump administration’s attempt to end TPS from Venezuela. Anticipating that Judge Chen will soon issue a ruling on Haiti TPS, Judge Stearns’ decision positions this case as vital in the fight to protect TPS for both Haitian and Venezuelan communities, should the California ruling be overturned.
This moment represents more than a win—it’s a decisive affirmation that due process and civil rights cannot be sidelined. UBN will continue to leverage every tool—legal and community-driven—to defend the dignity and safety of immigrants and TPS holders.
"This is a monumental victory," said Patrice Lawrence, Executive Director of UndocuBlack Network. "We maintain our ability to fight back swiftly against any future threats against TPS for Haiti and Venezuela TPS. This case is more than a lawsuit—it is a lifeline for our communities, a powerful shield against unjust deportations, and a testament to our unwavering resolve. We will not back down. We will not be silent. We will continue this fight until justice is secured.”
