Los Angeles Outreach & Project Consultant

 

Basic Function

The UndocuBlack Network seeks a consultant to do outreach and engage undocumented Black immigrants in Los Angeles, California. The project is focused on educating immigrant communities on their self-employment options and easing barriers to employment. The contract term is 6 months and the work is expected to require an average of 20 hours a week.

 

Key Deliverables

  • Work with the National Immigration Law Center to develop a multilingual toolkit on self employment

  • Plan workshops and co-lead a webinar to share self employment toolkit with immigrant community

  • Attend community events to connect with the local Black undocumented community and grow the regional UBN membership

  • Work with local partners to disseminate informational resources

  • Highlight the UndocuBlack Network, its work, and vision at community events, conferences

  • Work closely with UBN staff to track and report project progress

 

Skills & Experience

  • Familiar with the undocumented Black immigrant experience or has at least 3 years experience working with Black immigrant communities

  • The ability to communicate the mission and vision of the UndocuBlack Network to a diverse audience

  • Possesses excellent interpersonal skills

  • Minimum of 1 years community organizing experience is required

  • Works well independently and on a team to complete goals and adhere to project timelines

  • Experience working with the UndocuBlack Network preferred

  • Fluency in Spanish, French, Creole or Arabic is a plus

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills  

  • Must be organized and possess excellent follow-up skills

 

Compensation

This is a part time contract position for 6 months. Hours are flexible, pay is $15 an hour.

 

Location:

Successful candidate must be based in Los Angeles, California and have access to transportation.

UndocuBlack Network Organizer

Basic Function

The UndocuBlack Network Organizer will be responsible for doing outreach and engaging and organizing undocumented Black immigrants across the nation, both online and on the ground. The organizer will grow the network’s membership base and engage current members to build organizational capacity.

 

Key Responsibilities

  • Attend community events to connect with the local Black undocumented community and grow the regional UBN membership

  • Mobilize and recruit undocumented Black community members to become organizers, advocates, or spokespersons in the UndocuBlack Network

  • Conduct one-on-ones with UBN members to build leadership skills and increase UBN engagement

  • Highlight the UndocuBlack Network, its work, and vision at community events, conferences, and in the media

  • Assist UBN leadership to complete new projects as necessary

  • Maintain and build new relationships with organizational and community allies

 

Skills & Experience

  • Familiar with the undocumented Black immigrant experience or has at least 3 years experience working with Black immigrant communities
